GXD wish you and your colleagues a successful and prosperous 2016 and hope the following update will be of interest to you and your colleagues.
We saw many changes within the freight industry during 2015, notably within the ‘Deep Sea’ markets with increased capacity coming on to the established trade routes.
‘Mega Container ships’ are now being introduced, which have capacity of up to 21000 teu’s (twenty foot equivalent units) as well as the further launching of 22,000 teu vessels. This is interesting, against a background of much lower demand in the Far East, particularly China. In turn it has lead to downward pressure on freight rates, both eastbound and westbound; we do not see much change in this situation in the short term.
The industry continues adapting to increased legislation, ensuring that it meets much stricter environmental targets. Further, on the 1st July this year SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) legislation will be introduced, requiring all exporters to provide ‘verified’ weights to shipping lines prior to export. GXD can provide more information on request.
The European market continues to maintain current volumes, despite the political uncertainty as to the UK’s membership of the EU. However, as we see significant opportunities arising during the course of 2016 and 2017, we have reason to announce some significant changes to our business, which we have detailed below.
Following detailed market research, we have made significant investments to ensure that GXD will be positioned to take advantage of the developing market. By identifying a clear need to add to our existing freight forwarding services, we have invested in a 1.3acre site in Hull that will allow us to provide warehousing & distribution services, including a pick & pack facility, supporting our existing freight offering.
We will also be adding trailer & container handling facilities, due in no small part to our very close proximity to the Port of Hull and wider Humber Ports complex. There is also a weighbridge facility on site.
It is clear that by growing our business into value added areas we can offer a more complete service to our customers, one that caters for the small and medium sized companies that need a more bespoke offering.
I would be happy to discuss any areas of interest with you.
Very Best Regards, Graham Cross.
